The history of the greatest football team EVER!
The team was founded in 1873 by brothers Peter and Moses McNeil, William McBeath and Peter Campbell whilst out walking one day. The name "Rangers" was chosen by Moses after an English rugby team which he knew about.
Rangers played their first matches on the football pitches on Glasgow green. Eventually, in 1886, a private ground was secured in Burnbank.
Only a year was spent at this site when in 1887 the gers moved to the familiar site of the Ibrox area. This was due to the westward growing trend of the city.
But, in December 1899, The Gers moved to their now familiar Ibrox stadium we all know and love today, their first opponents being Hearts. The old Ibrox site is on the other side of the Copland Road.
