Jim was born Hill 'o Beath on 29th September 1939  and worked briefly as a coalminer before Rangers bought him from Raith Rovers as a 20 year old in June 1960 for $17'500.     In an inspiring game, Jim and the Rangers team went on to beat C*ltic 3-0 in the Scottish cup final of 1964, in which he ran the midfield.

Jim loved to play in the old firm derbys, and in his first stint at Rangers from 1960-1965 he played against C*ltic 18 times and lost only twice.

Jim also played in that memorable match against England in 1967, where Scotland won 3-2 with only 10 men.
